Edible Seaweed Specialist Achieves B Corp Certification

The New Zealand-based edible seaweed company Pacific Harvest has been awarded B Corp certification, joining a growing community of environmentally and socially conscious businesses worldwide.

Pacific Harvest aims to produce minimally processed, and ethically harvested seaweed ingredients and snacks, preserving the seaweeds’ natural mineral potency, and providing consumers with food that is beneficial “for both human and planet health”. The acquisition of B Corp certification marks a significant milestone for the company, affirming its strong commitment to ethical and sustainable practices while actively contributing to the growth of a thriving seaweed industry in New Zealand.

Verified by B Lab – a non-profit organization – the certification requires businesses to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, with the aim of encouraging the development of an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

“Our attention to the well-being of both humanity and the planet is inseparable from our business ethos. This certification solidifies our pledge to ethical and sustainable practices in our business, and our commitment to advancing New Zealand’s seaweed industry. We are proud to be counted among the impressive international cohort of B Corp-certified companies,” said Hayley Fraser-Mackenzie, managing director of Pacific Harvest, in a press release announcing the landmark achievement for the company.

“While achieving B Corp Certification is a milestone and public declaration to our customers and suppliers, our journey is far from complete. We firmly believe in the transformative potential of seaweed in Aotearoa New Zealand and look forward to our industry catching up to fully realize this exciting opportunity,” they added.
